※録音: October 2024, Concert Hall, TU Dublin Conservatoire, Ireland ---------- [初演地ダブリンに古楽器演奏で響く「生まれたての『メサイア』」の佇まい]1742年ダブリンで初演され、やがてヘンデルの代表作として不朽の名声に彩られてゆくことになる傑作オラトリオ『メサイア』。ここではアイルランドを代表する古楽器アンサンブルが、史料から推察できる初演時の状況にできるだけ近づけた小規模編成で「生まれたて」の傑作の姿に迫ります。声楽パートは独唱者を含めソプラノ4、アルト3、テノール3、バス3という構成で、独唱も合唱に加わるスタイル。4/3/2/2/1の弦楽編成で木管なし、これにトランペット2とティンパニが加わり、チェンバロとオルガンが通奏低音で入るオーケストラと織りなされるアンサンブルは、緊密かつ様式感にあふれ、聴き進めるほどに惹き込まれる求心力に貫かれています。その精緻な解釈のうちに現れるハレルヤ・コーラスの迫力は比較的小規模な編成だったことを忘れさせるほど。第2部後半にあるソプラノのアリア「麗しきかな、善き知らせを告げる者」はアルト(カウンターテナー)二重唱に合唱の続く形で歌われるなど初演版の特徴が活きているのも聴きどころです。躍進めざましいアレクサンダー・チャンスはじめ独唱陣の歌唱も充実度満点。並み居る名盤群にも劣らない聴き深めがいある全曲録音です。
