ネーデルランドのオルガニスト、作曲家、教師であったスヴェーリンク（１５６２‐１６２１）の最も重要な声楽作品集であるくカンッィオ・サクラ集＞がついにハイペリオンより発売。この作品はカトリックの典礼に由来する歌詞を用いたモテットであり、彼の友人であり弟子でもあったコルネリス・プレンプに献呈された。スヴェーリンクの教会音楽の録音は非常に少ないだけに貴重盤といえる。

今、イギリスで最も注目されている若手作他家の一人、マクミランの宗教作品。作曲家マクミランはスコットランド民族主義者であり、時には政治的なメッセージを発する硬派。熱心なカトリック教徒でもある彼は1990年代から集中的に宗教作品を発表、ここにおさめられたミサもそうしたものの一つで、西暦2000年の、ミレニアムの祝典のために書かれたもの．このミサの作曲を委嘱したのは、ここでも歌っている英国の名門、ウェストミンスター大聖堂合唱団。この他、マクミランの近作の宗教作品が収められている。どれも強いメッセージを放つ、ギラリとした音楽。
