古楽大国ベルギーの音楽学者としても高名なビョルン・シュメルツァーが1999年に創設した古楽アンサンブル「グランドラヴォア」。ギヨーム・ド・マショーの傑作「ノートル・ダム・ミサ曲」の録音（PGCDP32110）で「レコード・アカデミー賞」を受賞し、その野性的で迫力のある「古楽演奏」で世界に大きな衝撃を与え、前作「ブリュメルの地震ミサ」（XGCDP32118）でも、ジャズ・ギタリストがゲスト参加してサウンドスケープとミサ曲を融合させるという極めて意欲的な取り組みで大きな話題を呼びました。話題作が続くグランドラヴォアのニュー・アルバム「無より（Ex Nihilo）」は、無からの創造という神学的概念に基づいたルネサンス時代のモテットの数々を魅力的に紹介。ジョスカン・デプレの「自然界の理法を超えて」（万物の連なりを超えて/Praeter rerum seriem）といったよく知られた作品に、同作曲家のあまり知られていない作品が組み合わされ、オブレヒト、オケゲム、リベラ、ヴェルトによる優れた作品が配置されています。
