毎年8月14・15日のにスペイン、アリカンテ県エルチェ（エルス）の聖母教会で上演される有名な「エルチェの神秘劇」。起源は15世紀 にまで遡るとされ、口伝によって守られてきたこの神秘劇ですが、ときにその内容が記録されており、現存する最古の記録書として 1709年のものがエルチェ市古文書室に保管されている。当盤は、その1709年の記録書をもとに新版を作り、当時合せて演奏されたであろう タイプの楽曲を配して、聖母被昇天祭の前夜（イヴ）に上演される「エルチェの神秘劇」の第１部（マリアが亡くなるまで）を収めた ものです。現在現地で上演されているものを「トラディショナル・ヴァージョン」とするならば、こちらはさしずめ「ヒストリカル・ ヴァージョン」であり、楽器を大胆に使用しながらも響きはすっきりしており、むしろモダンな印象すら受けます。古楽ファン必聴の 一枚。録音も優秀です。
