ポリフォニー音楽の傑作といえるラ・リューのミサ曲を収録しています。演奏はチャレンジ・クラシックスからジョスカン・デ・プレ、オケゲムなどのルネサンス音楽をリリースしている男声アンサンブル、カペッラ・プラテンシス。経験豊かで研ぎ澄まされた様式美あふれる歌唱が名作に光を当てます。グレゴリオ聖歌やオルガンの即興も交えながら全曲を構成し、雰囲気を高めています。2016年はオランダの画家ヒエロニムス・ボス（1450-1516）の没後500年記念として、世界で話題が広がっています。このアルバムもまた彼へのオマージュとして発売されます。ボスとラ・リューは生没年も近く、共にオランダ南部のスヘルトーヘンボスに住んでいたこともあり、ボスがこのミサ曲から絵を描くインスピレーションを得たこともあるのではないかという想像も出来ます。

無伴奏混声合唱の美にあふれた1枚。イギリスの現代作曲家アンソニー・ピッツの「Missa Unitatis」をメインに古楽と現代の合唱曲を間に散りばめ構成したアルバムです。ピッツの作品は2016年にヒエロニムス・ボス没後500年記念演奏会で披露されたもので、出だしは古風にグレゴリオ聖歌調ですが一気に声部を増やし合唱の可能性を見せつけます。古楽の分野で好評を得てきたカペッラ・プラテンシスが期待を裏切らない美しい歌唱を聴かせつつ、さらに未開の地へ進んでいくような刺激的なアルバムです。

シューマンの死、そして母の死をきっかけに書き進められたブラームスの「ドイツ・レクイエム」はソプラノとバリトンの独唱と合唱、管弦楽による全7曲の大規模な作品で、特にフーガを用いた壮大な展開が魅力的です。CHALLENGE CLASSICS レーベルから多くのリリースを行っている指揮者フリエンドが満を持してこの大曲に挑みました。生命力に満ちたエネルギッシュな演奏でありながら細部まで正確に作りこまれており、この先この曲を語る上で無視することのできない快演となっています。

15-16世紀のポリフォニーを得意とするヴォーカル・アンサンブル「カペッラ・プラテンシス」が、オランダの画家ヒエロニムス・ボス(1450-1516) の没後500年記念として2016年に始めたシリーズの第2 集。同時期に作曲されたムートンのミサを中心に、聖歌などを絡めて構成されています。楽譜を吟味し原典に忠実な演奏を行う彼らは批評家や音楽雑誌等からも高い評価を受けており、このアルバムも隙のない歌唱が見事。
